When you purr.
They are the kittens that insist
You're a cur.
They are the dogs that bite
Before howl.
They are the wolves whose fight
Lies in prowl.

But you are a savage,
Equal or more.
Your job is to ravage,
Attack, fight, and pour
Your heart and soul
Into what lies in store
For you.

It's not whether you can hear them that counts,
But whether you can hear them,
Then still pounce.
